The XV International Conference on General Linguistics (XV CILG 2023) will be held at the Complutense University of Madrid from June 14th to 16th, 2023.

The Complutense University of Madrid takes over from the XIV CILG, held in Seville (2021). The conference editions started in Valencia (1994) and continued in Granada (1996), Salamanca (1998), Cádiz (2000), León (2002), Santiago de Compostela (2004), Barcelona (2006), Madrid (2008), Valladolid (2010), Zaragoza (2012), Pamplona (2014), Alcalá de Henares (2016), and Vigo (2018).

Language is multifaceted. It is a universal attribute of the human species, but it manifests itself in an extraordinary diversity of languages. It manifests itself in an external, objective and objectifiable way, but cannot be understood without an internal brain architecture. It is a property of individuals, but also of social groups. As a result of this inherent complexity, our area of study includes a variety of disciplinary subfields: descriptive, theoretical, historical, and typological linguistics (at their different levels of analysis), language acquisition and teaching, discourse analysis, computational linguistics and natural language processing, clinical linguistics, forensic linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics.

This edition has selected computational linguistics, forensic linguistics, and language teaching in digital environments as priority areas. These are three highly topical fields, with a marked social impact and an outstanding professionalizing nature, which constitute a good example of what linguistics can contribute to our digitized world. Nevertheless, any research question relevant to other fields of linguistics are also welcome at the XV CILG 2023.

The XV CILG will feature plenary lectures, themed sessions, round tables, oral communication sessions, and poster sessions.  The official languages of the conference are English, Spanish, and the co-official languages of Spain.

One or more monographic volumes can be considered for publication in the UCM Linguistics and Communication Collection, by Ediciones Complutense, https://www.ucm.es/ediciones-complutense
