Workshop MEGAR
Métodos Efectivos en Geometría Algebraica Real / Effective Methods in Real Algebraic Geometry

Facultad de Ciencias Matemáticas, Universidad Complutense de Madrid
June 21-22, 2019

The workshop "Métodos Efectivos en Geometría Algebraica Real" (i.e. Effective Methods in Real Algebraic Geometry), MEGAR for short, will take place at the same venue and immediately after the end of MEGA (Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry), June 17-21, 2019, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. We have chosen the acronym MEGAR in recognition of the importance of effective methods in real geometry, from the origins of real algebra to the multiple emerging applications of real geometry.

The motivation for  holding this MEGAR workshop is manifold, but can be focused on the 40 year celebration of  the first visit of D. W. Dubois to Madrid, a foundational moment for the creation of the Spanish Real Algebraic Geometry research community.

Due to the short period of  time, the  MEGAR workshop will comprise mainly invited talks; a few general  general talks and the rest of short talks distributed in four parallel Special Sessions about the following topics: A: Topology of real algebraic sets, B: Semialgebraic sets and o–minimal structures, C: Sums of squares, positivity and optimization and D: Computational real algebraic geometry and its applications. Additionally, submitted contributions in form of  poster presentation.

There is no specific registration fee for MEGAR, nor it is required to attend MEGA in order to participate in MEGAR. We encourage all those interested in the Workshop to register as soon as possible on the website

https://eventos.ucm.es/24016/detail/megar.html

or send an email to

megar@ucm.es

declaring your interest to take part in  MEGAR.

Invited speakers:

Confirmed speakers (at this moment): Alex Degtyarev, Bernard Mourrain, Cordian Riener, Daniel Perrucci, Elías Baro, Grigory Mikhalkin, Ilia Itenberg, Josef Schicho, Josué Tonelli-Cueto, Krzysztof KurdykaLaureano González-Vega, M. Françoise Roy, Markus Schweighofer, Michel Coste, Sergey Finashin, Tomás Recio, Wojciech Kucharz.

Important dates:

Deadline for submissions of posters:

   April 25, 2019 (Extended until May 24)

Notification of acceptance of posters:

   May 31, 2019

Posters: authors who wish to present a poster, should submit an extended abstract (in a free format) that should contain an outline of the main contributed ideas, results and proofs.

The posters, to be printed on A1, will be exhibited during most of the conference, and during a poster session the authors will have the opportunity to discuss their work with the conference participants.

Submissions: Submissions of posters should contain recent original research relevant to ANY aspects of real algebraic and analytic geometry  including  foundational issues, theoretical and computational contributions, practical issues and applications. Of course, submissions highlighting Effective Methods in Real Algebraic and Analytic Geometry are specially welcome, but MEGAR topics are not restricted to these.

Acceptance of a submitted contribution means acceptance for poster presentation only.

Lodging: All the participants in MEGAR, up to the ones invited to speak in some of the sessions by the organization, should arrange the lodging by themselves.

However, there are a limited number of rooms available in (graduate) Student Residences at the Campus area. The organization will manage these reservations, and preference will be given to PhD students and Post-doc. Prices in these residences do not exceed 50 eur in single room with bath. In case you are interested, register in the web page of the workshop and ask it to the contact address megar@ucm.es
